Are you sure that copy of Propeller Arena is genuine? There are some very professional covers available for it online, which I've used to make copies for friends- even down to the fake spinecard.

I'd just like to say that I find it ironic that there were more tabletop RPG panels than video game panels, since it's pretty clear old school pen-and-paper games are in the minority. Thanks to your previous posts I now understand why!

Just read your review and I gotta to disagree, I thought the film really didn't grasp gamer culture. I saw it at some early screening two years back and I thought it was just simply a dumb film worthy of netflix. Not a bad thing I love dumb silly movies. It has some great moments like the duck, but it didn't seem to really understand DDR and the audience I was with really agreed in the Q and A that followed. Unbeknownst to me the director who starred in the film was in the back in a suit with a lovely lady. I consider it the Joysticks, one of my favorite gamer movies that doesn't understand video games, of today.

Also I don't know if he was just kidding , but he was wearing an eye patch for the screening, you wouldn't happen to know if he really is blind in one eye?

I do want to see his next film about superheroes and see what else Drafthouse film picks up themselves

I didn't see the waterballon guy this year, but last year, he tried to give us the demo, and the damn thing got loose and soaked my shirt. So he totally gave me a free sample. Thing is a piece of crap, there were many better competitors on the market that don't suck.

Those pizza model things must be by Reed and Rader http://www.reedandrader.com as it totally looks like their style. I love their work. They were doing the whole fashion + animated gif thing long before it became trendy and there's often a video game influence to it too.

I realize this post is old, but I did want to say that MoCCA is a very small non-profit that's entirely run by volunteers. It may not have zero dollars in the bank, but it's always in need of funding. If you've ever visited the actual museum, you've seen the small gallery it's located in and recognize how they're working very hard to get by with what they have. Also, finding affordable and large venues in NY is difficult. If you have any recommendations though, feel free to let them know.

I'm a huge No More Heroes fan, just huge, and I think "The David Lynch of videogames" is as apt and respectful a comparison as any other I've heard. I own but haven't played Killer 7 yet, and would love to see The Silver Case released in North America. . . apparently it's scheduled for a 3DS port?

Anyway, I played a few hours of FSR and can appreciate it but. . . wasn't getting enough out of it to continue. But your review makes me want to dig it out and try again sometime. Right after I get to my unplayed copy of Contact!

(BTW, Tiny Cartridge's archives sent me!)

This post makes me want to see 'The King of Chinatown'. Triforce is, by reputation, a lying piece of shit, so it's no surprise to hear him claim (again) that he was unfairly painted. The same thing happened when we were documenting Empire Arcadia's gamer protest against violence, right after the VT shootings. Long story short, Triforce botched the whole thing, blamed it on his sponsors, and lied to us (on camera) about what happened. Empire members, JC Media, everybody disputed him but he wouldn't back down on his version of the events.
I agree that some documentaries (especially those made by people outside the communities they focus on) are more about story and less about truth, but with Triforce, I'm inclined not to believe his assertions. Guy's a nut!
